Professional Sales program

The Sam M. Walton College of Business Professional Sales Program equips students with critical business, negotiation, and problem-solving skills for success in solution-oriented selling, preparing them to become future leaders in the sales profession.

Sales competition

Guided by faculty with extensive industry experience and nationally recognized research expertise, students engage in interactive coursework, consultative projects, and real-world sales exercises.

The program connects them with accomplished faculty, industry partners, and executive mentors who provide personalized coaching and career guidance.

Through this hands-on approach, students learn to identify client needs, overcome objections, and deliver tailored solutions, bridging classroom learning with real-world application.

The Professional Sales Micro-Certificate

The Professional Sales Micro-Certificate aims to equip future graduates with advanced skills and knowledge in the art and science of selling. Students will learn and practice these skills through classroom instruction, role play and actual selling, preparing them for a career in the profession of sales. Graduates will enter the workforce capable of independently generating revenue and adding value to clients and employers.

Professional Sales Micro-Certificate requirements and steps:
  1. Contact your advisor to let them know you are seeking the Professional Sales Micro Certificate.
  2. Complete 9 hours of the following courses:
    • Selling and Sales Management (MKTG 33403)
    • Advanced Professional Selling (MKTG 43503)
    • Selling and Sales Application and Leadership (MKTG 43603) OR Sales Analytics (MKTG 43703)
Upon completing the Professional Sales Micro Certificate, holders will:
  • Master the 8-step sales process, articulating the critical steps in the process and navigating clients through the process.
  • Develop effective discovery questioning techniques to uncover client needs.
  • Formulate and present clear, concise value propositions that solve client needs.
  • Skillfully handle and resolve client objections to proposed solutions.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in closing a sale.
  • Exhibit personal and professional skills essential for a successful career as a Sales Professional.

Sales Immersion Day

Students connect with industry partners in an expo setting, fostering opportunities to showcase their skills and explore potential career paths in a dynamic sales environment.

Walton College Sales Competition

Students in the Selling and Sales Management and Advanced Professional Selling courses compete in role playing a sales call by presenting industry sponsor cases to partner organizations. They gain real-world experience and a better understanding of the sales process.
