Event Highlight: 2023 Supply Chain Immersion Virtual Summit

The 2023 Immersion Summit, hosted by the J.B. Hunt Transport Department of Supply Chain Management in the Sam M. Walton College of Business, took place virtually last week from November 9th through 10th. The purpose of the summit was to connect a diverse grouping of university students and faculty from across the nation with the thriving supply chain ecosystem in Northwest Arkansas.

Event Highlight: Fall PLN Event

The Fall 2002 SCMRC Peer-Learning Event focused on risk and resilience in the supply chain. Ash Eisa (formerly SVP of Global Sourcing, Walmart) shared his perspectives on the key principles: 1) it is imperative to know your supply chain end to end; 2) balance tradeoffs between costs and control; 3) bear spray seems expensive until you need it—buy the insurance. The principles are easy to agree with at a superficial level, implementing them requires understanding the “nuts and bolts.” To this end, Eisa led a panel discussion with Jennifer Christy (Sr. Director of Contract Manufacturing, Tyson), Eric McGee (EVP Highway Service, JB Hunt) and Sean Reber (Sr. Director of Global Sourcing, Walmart) to identify actionable strategies for increasing resilience.

Event Highlight: Summer PLN Event

The Summer 2022 SCMRC Peer Learning Event focused on labor issues within the supply chain. Kevin Kliesen of the St. Louis Federal Reserve Bank gave an assessment of overall macroeconomic conditions. Brian Fugate (University of Arkansas) engaged Kellie Black (ArcBest), Torin Martinez (P&G), and MaryEllen Kauffman (Walmart) in a panel discussion on managing workforce talent in the Post-COVID era.

Event Highlight: WISE Future Leaders Symposium

The Fourth Annual WISE Future Leader Symposium kicked off Oct. 6-7 in the Reynolds Center for Enterprise Development at the Sam M. Walton College of Business. The event, themed “A Wiser Future for Supply Chain,” celebrated female pioneers who have led the way for women in supply chain management, and many legends of the industry will be on hand.

It was another successful Northwest Arkansas Supply Chain Management Shadow Day for the J.B. Hunt Transport Department of Supply Chain Management as nine NWA-based companies allowed students from the University of Arkansas to see what a day in the life of that company looks like.
