For over twenty years Dr. Raja Kali has been a professor at the Sam M. Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas and currently serves as the Chair of the Department of Economics.
Dr. Kali enjoys teaching the core economics course in the Walton EMBA program where he gets to help highly motivated students better understand how the economy effects their professional jobs, as well as all other aspects of their everyday life.
“Economics is everywhere and everywhere there is economics”
Being able to incorporate real-world examples and current events into his classes is something that not only keeps the class interesting for students, but also for Dr. Kali himself.
Dr. Kali can speak five languages including Bengali, English, Hindi, Spanish and French, which he has been able to use as a trip leader for study abroad experiences with the MBA program. He also spent time abroad at the Indian School of Business, The London School of Economics and Political Science - LSE, and HEC Montréal.
Dr. Kali considers himself very lucky to work with his fellow faculty members in a highly research-active department. Research from the department has been referenced thousands of times by people all around the world. The research Dr. Kali is personally the most proud of centers around the question “Why do some countries grow faster than others?” It explores the idea of how largely agrarian economies can leap to produce more sophisticated products.
Dr. Kali encourages young people to be ambitious in order to find their path. He gives this advice to freshmen: “Try to think long term, take a broader view. Find the intersection of what you like and what you are good at.“
On the weekends, Dr. Kali enjoys cooking all different kinds of food with his family.
We are thankful to have Dr. Kali here with us at Walton College!
