The American Red Cross, which supplies 40% of the nation’s blood supply, is facing the worst blood shortage in a decade due to the pandemic, illness, staffing and weather-related closures. All blood types are needed, but type O positive, O negative and platelets are in critically low supply.
To help avert this shortage, the Sam M. Walton College of Business is partnering with the American Red Cross to host a blood drive Jan. 25 and 26, 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., in Willard J. Walker Hall, room 216. All blood types are needed; appointments are not necessary.
Those with COVID-19 should not donate until they are symptom free for 14 days and feeling healthy. For questions regarding donor eligibility requirements, visit RedCrossBlood.org.
To encourage donations, the Red Cross is entering those who donate blood by Jan. 31 for a chance to win a Super Bowl LVI getaway in Los Angeles for two, a home theater package or a $500 e-gift card! See RedCrossBlood.org/SuperBowl for terms and conditions.
Give the gift of life! Donate blood next Tuesday and Wednesday in Williard J. Walker Hall, room 216, located at 191 N. Harmon Ave., across the street from Harmon Garage.
