Here is the text of the news release from the University of Alaska Anchorage on Cary Deck’s year-long appointment as Rasmuson Chair of Economics.

UAA appoints Dr. Cary Deck as new Rasmuson Chair of Economics

Cary Deck, a professor of economics at the University of Arkansas and the director of its Behavioral Business Research Laboratory, will serve as the University of Alaska Anchorage’s Rasmuson Chair of Economics for the 2015-16 academic year.

“I’m thrilled to have Professor Deck join us for the coming academic year,” says James Murphy, UAA economics professor and former Rasmuson Chair. “He’s internationally recognized as a leading experimental economist and will make an excellent addition to our faculty.”

Within UAA’s College of Business and Public Policy, Deck will work with faculty to promote research and teaching excellence. He will engage students in the classroom and will advise them on undergraduate research projects.

Deck’s research uses controlled laboratory experiments to investigate a wide array of topics from risk taking to choice overload. His work has been supported by grants from the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health and the Federal Trade Commission, and has been published in leading journals, including the American Economic Review, Econometrica, and Review of Economic Studies, among others.

RASMUSON CHAIR OF ECONOMICS

The Rasmuson Chair of Economics was created through a generous endowment by the late Elmer Rasmuson, an Alaska banker, entrepreneur and philanthropist. The purpose of the position is to bring to UAA distinction and leadership in the study of economics and its relevance to Alaska’s future.
