The Office of Student Success at the Sam M. Walton College of Business hosted a social and dining etiquette workshop for some 50 students on Tuesday, Nov. 16, to help prepare them for interviews, business meetings and other professional social events.

The training, presented by consultant Helena Gadison, featured dining etiquette while being served a formal three-course dinner. Students were required to wear business attire for the event, where they learned about proper dining etiquette, professional image and networking. Gadison highlighted:

  • Classic and Formal Table Settings

  • Utensil, Napkin Placement and Usage

  • Taking and Leaving Your Seat

  • Meat Preparation Overview

  • Ordering, Drinking and Eating Protocols

  • Networking/Conversing

  • Engaging Waitstaff

  • Phone Usage and Handbag Placement

  • Key Dining Etiquette Tips for Success

Gadison is the senior national sales account manager for Conair Corporation, a multi-billion dollar beauty and person care appliances company. She also serves as the dining etiquette trainer for the University of Arkansas student-athletes and Leadership Walton students.

Student Success will hold an additional etiquette training next semester on April 7, 2022. Walton College’s Office of Student Success delivers a comprehensive approach to student engagement, retention, degree completion, career readiness and job outcomes.
