How The Application Process Works

  1. Select Apply Now to register for an account.  (It is recommended you use Chrome or Firefox as your internet browser when completing the online application form.)
  2. Fill out and Submit the online application form.
  3. Upload the supporting documents in your Application Portal.

Registering For An Account

  • Select "Apply Now" to begin your program application
  • You will receive a personalized PIN number at your registered email address
  • Activate your PIN and set a password
  • Choose Walton Graduate School of Business Application*
  • Select your degree level (doctorate, masters, or graduate certificate)
  • Choose your program of study
  • Select "Create Application"
  • Note: to take individual graduate level courses outside of a degree program, you will need to choose the non-degree graduate application

 

Logging in to your Student Portal

  • Use this portal to complete the application
  • Submit the required documents through your portal (see Application Materials below)
  • Pay the $60 application fee
  • You will need the names and email addresses of 3 references to submit your application (see Letters of Recommendation below)

  • Communications will also be sent to your registered email address
  • You can update your email address in your Student Portal

The Application Review Process

  • The Walton Graduate School of Business will conduct the first review of application materials
  • Once the Graduate School of Business review is completed, your application will be automatically forwarded to the individual program review committee
  • Different program committees have different timelines for reviews. You will be notified through your Student Portal once a decision has been made.

In addition to the Online Application, and the $60 Application Fee, the following documents are required:

Transcripts

  • You can upload unofficial copies for an initial application review
  • Official copies will be needed to finalize admission, and prior to enrollment.** Please contact the Registrar's Office from all previous institutions to request official documents.
  • The University of Arkansas conducts its own international credential evaluation, no outside evaluations are accepted
  • Note: If you are a current or former U of A student, we have your official Arkansas transcript on file. You do not need to submit another copy.

Test Scores

  • Confirm the required test for your program
    – Most programs will accept either the GMAT or GRE
  • You can upload unofficial test results for an initial application review
  • Official results will be needed to finalize any admission decision
  • You can register for either the GMAT or GRE on the University of Arkansas campus at test.uark.edu.  Our School code is 6866.

Statement of Purpose

  • Your statement is a professional statement of purpose, sometimes called a personal statement.
  • It can be direct and concise, no more than 2 pages double spaced
  • You can start by summarizing your educational and employment history – What have you learned? –What have you accomplished? –How has your career evolved?
  • You might proceed by discussing what it is you are now looking for –Where do you want to take your career moving forward? –What skills are you now looking to learn? –What are your new goals?
  • Of course, you may also include your personal story if it is a factor
  • What special skills, experiences, or characteristics would you bring to the class?
  • What else is motivating you to pursue a graduate business education?

Resume

  • This does not need to be limited to a one-page business resume
  • You can expand the details of each previous position, including whether or not it was full-time employment
  • Be sure to include any numbers, financials, or analytics used in each position
  • Highlight any leadership or managerial experiences
  • Include any special projects or achievements
  • You are welcome to review résumé advice on the Walton Career Services website

Letters of Recommendation

  • All program committees value the insight offered by your references
  • You will need the names and email addresses of 3 professional references
  • They will then receive an automated email request to upload a letter on your behalf
  • If you are a current undergraduate student or a recent graduate, please include a minimum of 1 academic reference
  • If you are a working professional, you may include all employment-based references

Senior Waiver

For students 60 years and older, if you are interested in applying for the University’s Senior Waiver, please read through the General Student Fee Waiver for Students Sixty Years of Age or Older policy. Please keep in mind that program-specific fees are not waived under this policy. This would include the program fees associated with the Executive MBA, Healthcare Executive MBA, Professional MIS, Professional MABA, and Enterprise Systems graduate certificates. Students approved for the senior waiver would still be charged all fees associated with these professional programs. More information is also available on the University of Arkansas website.

Application Requirements and Instructions for All Master's Programs

Successful applicants to the Walton College master’s degree programs must be academically strong and demonstrate high leadership potential. In addition, we seek to ensure diversity in the educational, experiential, and cultural backgrounds of the members of each master’s program class. Each applicant’s potential is evaluated on the following dimensions:

  • Academic record, including areas of strength and trends in academic performance. The GPA of the last 60 hours is the focus. Applicants must hold at least a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Aptitude for graduate work in business, as measured by the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or the Graduate Record Examination (GRE), is used to make admissions decisions. (see Which Test is Accepted)
  • Background, growth potential, maturity, motivation, and leadership, as indicated by employment history, other activities, and statement of purpose.
  • Professional work experience, while not required, is a significant contributor to a competitive application.


All application materials MUST be submitted before an admissions decision will be made. 



Application Form - Apply Online. - You will not submit academic documents or letter of recommendation information with the application for admission. The Graduate School of Business will send you an email outlining how to activate your Applicant Center in UA Connect to upload documents and recommender information. Please allow up to five business days for email notification. 

Application Fee (non-refundable)** - A $60.00 application fee must accompany application materials. The fee must be made payable to the University of Arkansas in U.S. dollars, drawn on a U.S. bank. The application fee is non-refundable and no application will be processed without the fee. **Application fee may be waived under certain circumstances.

Résumé - A current résumé is required. Be certain that your résumé indicates your full-time and part-time employment history, extracurricular collegiate, professional, and community activities, honors and awards, and foreign language proficiency.

Transcripts -Unofficial transcripts can be uploaded for initial review, but official transcripts must be received to finalize any admission offer. Official transcripts from each college or university you attended, undergraduate and graduate, are required. Course work completed at one institution and posted on the transcript of a second institution is not acceptable. A transcript from the original institution is required (this includes summer course work, exchange programs, etc.). Official transcripts must be received in sealed envelopes.

Letters of Recommendation - Three letters of recommendation are required in support of your application. *One should come from an individual who is familiar with your scholastic record and one should come from an individual who is familiar with your professional performance. The third letter can be from either a second academic or professional reference or from someone who knows you well and is familiar with your potential as a graduate student.

*Students applying to the Executive MBA, Professional Master of Information Systems, or the Enterprise Systems Graduate Certificate Programs can submit three professional letters of recommendation.

Statement of Purpose - Please provide a thoughtful essay response to the following questions. Please limit your response to two pages, double spaced. 

What are your short-term and long-term career goals? How will the degree program you wish to complete help you achieve these goals?

You are welcome to include any unique events, life experiences, and qualifications you feel distinguish your candidacy as well.

Official GMAT or GRE Score Report* - We require test scores to be sent directly to the University of Arkansas. The appropriate test must be taken within five years of the semester in which you wish to enroll. Official scores must be received to finalize any admission offer. See which test is accepted in your program of interest. Our Institution Code for all official test scores is 6866.

*Please Note: A GMAT/GRE waiver is available for select Executive MBA and Professional MIS candidates. If you have at least five years of quality work experience and a strong prior academic record, you may be eligible. Please contact us for more details.

Domestic students are also eligible for student loans. In order to apply, you must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid.


International Applicants

All applicants to our Ph.D. programs are carefully reviewed for their academic background and performance, and their potential to be outstanding researchers.

Our goal is to find a group of individuals that, taken together, will excel in our programs and contribute to each other's educational experience. Your goal is to provide information that will distinguish yourself from among the many outstanding candidates who apply to the Sam M. Walton College of Business. Use your application materials to distinguish yourself from your peers.

The appropriate Admissions Committee will review and evaluate your application once all supporting documents and  application fee have been received. The official GMAT, TOEFL, and/or GRE scores should be sent directly from the test administrator. Applications will not be considered until the packet is complete.

Admission Criteria

Each applicant's potential is evaluated on the following dimensions:

  • Academic record, including areas of strength and trends in academic performance. Master's GPA is used to assess this criteria. Applicants must hold at least a master's degree from an accredited college or university. In rare circumstances, an applicant may be admitted into a Ph.D. program without a master's degree.
  • Aptitude for graduate work in business, as measured by the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT). The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is used to make admissions decisions for the Ph.D. in Economics. Please visit our Application Deadlines page to see which tests are accepted for the programs you're interested in.
  • Background, growth potential, maturity, motivation, and leadership, as indicated by résumé and statement of objectives.
  • Academic Research – Résumé, statement of objectives, and letters of recommendation are used to assess a student's ability to conduct quality academic research.

Ph.D. Programs

Please note that applicants for a doctoral program at the University of Arkansas have a secondary language requirement if they are awarded a graduate assistantship. Successful applicants must meet an additional speaking and writing language score to begin the teaching duties of their assistantship. This second requirement cannot be waived, although it can be met after arrival upon approval by the Graduate School of Business. Please review the International Admissions website for the minimum speaking and writing scores.
